Guacharo caves
in the Guacharo caves live the Guacharo birds. During the day these birds stay in the caves and when the evening starts, they leave the caves looking for food. Alfred Hitchcock used the sound of these birds for his scary movie "Birds". Don't go in the caves, because there's a lot of bird crap.

Los Barrancos
The rivers Orinocco and Caroni merge at the place Los Barancos. Los Barrancos is nearby Ciudad Guyana, which is the capital of the region Bolivar. At the place the two rivers merge, you see a slight difference of colour. But what're realy impressive are all the waterfalls you see. It's like a mix between a very broad waterfall and a wild stream.

Gold
Gold is found in Venezuela and therefore it's more cheap as in Holland. The way the people get the gold is a very nasty way. In the gold factories the gold ore is mixed with liquid mercury. The gold merge with the mercury and then  the mercury will vaporize, so the gold is left. Oke, some mercury will enter the ground. And the average age an employe dies is about 40 years.... (some mercury can vaporize into the nose of an employee)

When we visited the factory the employees warned us not to look into the bins, because that's dangerous. But they don't care its dangerous for themself to look into the bins, so you see the persons with their nose above the bins, looking if there's gold in it. So you'll die early, but the wage in a gold factory is good for Venezolan standards.

We visited the little city  El Dorado which had some "jewellers" . In those shops the gold seems to be cheap. well they look different from the Dutch jewellers; in Holland you don't see bars and heavenly armed gards.

Eiffel bridge
In the region Bolivar when you drive at the main road to  Brasil, you'll ride over the  bridge if  Papillon. Papillon is the story of a French convict that escaped from a prison in French  Guynee and found a shelter at the indians. In this famouse story, this bridge is metioned. The bridge is designed by Gustave Eiffel and was a revolutionary design. To be honest: it's a nice bridge, but not really looking special.

Table mountain
In the Sierra de Lema you see some table mountains. A  table mountain is a mountain that doesn't have a top. It does have a plateu instead. When you see a table mountain rise above the flat land, you see it's a special kind of mountain. One table mountain in the  Sierra de Lema does have the nickname: the nipple, because it does have the shape of a nipple,.

Angel Falls
The highest waterfall of the world is the  "Angel falls" . The tourist industry is making a lot of promotion for it, you realy have to fly above this waterfall. Well, it didn't impress me at all. we flew over the waterfall and I noticed somewhere deep down the plain, there was a tiny little waterfall, which indeed looked a bit high.  But I had seen a lot more impressive waterfalls. Maybe when you walk to this waterfall it's more impressive. (I think at the trip through the jungle would be nice)

El Sado
A stop before the famous  "Angel Falls" is the little place El Sado. Here you can see a gigantic waterfall at the end of the lake. We sailed by boat  over the  lake just until we were near the waterfall. Then we wnet to the bank and walked over a  smal trail This trail went under the waterfall. At the end we had a nice view over the  Sierra de Lema. This trip was far more impressive then the famouse Angel falls by plain.
