Kairouan
Kairouan (karavaan) is a holy city for muselman pilgrims.
After Mekka, Medina and Jerusalem
this is the holyest Islamic town on earth. On the birthday
of the holy prophet Mohammed this city is visited by thousends of muslims.
I haven't noticed this, when I was there, I didn' see
anything special, proberbly it wasn't a special day.
Circumcision
When I was at the patio of the mosque (I
think it was the Sidi Amor
Abbada mosque) something
"nice"hapened. Tunisian people in festive dresses enter the square. Among
them a lot of well dressed children. One of those children was totaly in
white. An older man in white was waiting for the people and he talked with
the family of the boy in white. Then the man in white went to a room with
the little boy. They closed the room. After a few minutes the women of the
family made a lot of noise with their tongue: "loeloeloeloeloe loeloeloeloeloe
loeloeloeloeloe ". I was nearby the room with the
little boy and the man in white and I heart some crying of the boy. You
could hardly hear the crying because of the "loeloeloe". The women also
threw a lot of candy at the square, so all the children were enthousiastic
grabing candy and nobody noticed one little boy was missing.... Some moments
later, the man in white returned with the little boy in his arms. The boy
was quit and I saw the leftover of a little tear. He now has become a real
man! The family left and the cars were hooting.
When I first arrived in Tunisia sometimes
wandered why cars were hooting. I didn't knew. I thought there had been a
footbal match or something like that. After the visit to Kairouan
it's all clear to me now. When you hear cars hooting and you
see a produ family, maybe you can also see a little boy in white that has
become a man.....
Big mosque (Sidi Oqba)
It's not allowed to enter this mosque when you're no muslim.
I had some luck, so I could have a peek inside. in the mosque you see a lot
of columns, all made of different stone.
