Explanation:

Madurodam

Madurodam is opened at july 2th 1952. Mister and misses Maduro build this city as a war memory for their sun George Maduroe, who's died on Tuberculosis (tbc). It was also a foundation against tuberculosis in Holland, but because tbc in Holland has become very rare (some foreigners still have tbc), the Madurodam foundation now give other aid.
In Madurodam there're some small attractions that you can start by inserting 10 eurocents. Before the euro, it was 10 cent ("dubbeltje"); which was the smallest coin of Holland. (Now the smallest coin is 1 eurocent, but Madurodam cannot keep the attractions alive for that small amount)

The whole park is at a scale of 1:25 . It's an ideal height for children and because Madurodam uses only one scale its easy to compare the size of buildings. Advertisements in Madurodam are very subtle: some buildings are sponsored and you find advertisements at miniature trucks, shops etc.

Prinses Beatrix has been the mayor of Madurodam until she became Queen. Now Madurodam gets a new mayor every year. The mayor is elected from school children at the age of 16 -17 year.

Huis ten Bosch (House in the Wood)

Since 1981 Huis ten Bosch is the residence of queen Beatrix. It was at the frozen pond of huis ten Bosch, were Willem Alexander asked Maxima to become his wife.
