Explanation:

Prison Gate

The Prison Gate is at the Kneuterdijk. There used to be houses and people could walk through the gate. After the houses connected with the gate were demolished they build a small pedestrion gate. (A lot of pedetrions used it to urinate) They have broken down the pedestrion gate a few decades later. Now the Prison Gate is a museum

Coloured postcards

At the time couloured photo's were very expensive, they coloured black and white photo's by hand. To print in colour was not a big problem, so that explains that some older postcards are still in colour.

Mauritshuis with coloured windows?

To make a boring postcard nice, my father did the following: With a pin he did make holes in the card in the shape of a window etc. If you watch that card in the sunlight, you can see the light shine through the holes. The effect became even better, if you past coloured paper at the back of the card, because then you could see coloured light.
