Has The Hague changed

The Dutch singer Harry Jekkers is singing in his song:
o, o, Den Haag:
"Den Haag is de laatste tijd toch zoooo veranderd.."
(The Hague has changed so much lately)

Is this true?
He 's proberbly right. Like most big cities new buildings are build and old buildings are destroyed.
In The Hague the center has changed a lot after the war. We see the Babylon mall, a new town hall, a lot of big governmental buildings etc.
If you have a look at the old postcards you can check if indeed a lot has changed.

Some brief info about The Hague

The Hague is the 3the city of the Netherlands. (After Amsterdam and Rotterdam)
The Dutch parliament is settled in The Hague which makes it a special city. Because of the parliament also a lot of ambassies and consulates are settled in The Hague.Ook de The Royal Family also has a special relationship with The Hague. Queen Beatrix is living in The Hague ("Huis ten Bosch"). The future king Willem Alexander is also living nearby The Hague.
Because of the presence of the Royal Family, the parliament and all those ambassies, The Hague is a litle bit chique. In The Hague you'll find some verry beautifull and large houses and some exclusive shops. With the sea nearby and all the g

Of course, the workers do no live in those expensive houses. They live in neighbourhoods like "de schilderswijk." Here you see poor Dutch people and people of several countries.

The Hague dialects

If you talk about the Hague dialect, you immediately think about the dialect spoken by the workers.

There's however another dialect that only a few people speak: The language of the civil servants Civil servants are superb with new abbreviations or inventing new words. Purpose is to have an intelligent appeal and most important: make sure nobody really understand what you're saying.

The there's the language of the haute chique. This dialect is only spoken by people with lots of money, royalty etc. The dialect is not only spoken in The Hague (Wassenaar) but also in "t Gooi". If you want to speak this language just switch the eu with the ui and you're half way. (So its not Europe, but Uirope etc.)

My relationship with The Hague

I'm born in The hague and I've lived there until I became 7. After that I went to Gouda and Brabant. Although I've not lived long in The Hague, I have been there a lot of times visiting family, going on holidays (Ockenburg) and going to the beach. I also still speak Dutch with a verry small Hague accent.
