Middle and South
part of Portugal
North of Lisboa is the city Sintra.
In this city there're several castles, but the most
intresting castle is da Pena.
This has been the castle of the former queen of Portugal.
The castle was a monastery, but the queen rebuild it to a
castle. It does have a variety of stiles and it looks like a castle you
would find in an atraction park like Disneyland. inside you also see a lot
of different stiles and a lot of furniture. It's valuable, but it does look
like a Gipsy house.
The coast of Portugal is very
rough here, which makes it beautiful. Cabo de
Roca is the most western part of the mainland of Europe.
On our way to Fatima we passed the place
Batalha. Here thereb was a
big cathedral that was totaly burned. It looked a bit creapy to me.
More to the middle of Portugal
there's the pilgrimage place of Fatima.
the churches are not that special, but you see large squares
and a lot of parking places, so that implicates a lot of visitors. When I
visited the place there was a procession of the Virgin Mary. All the people
created a special atmosphere.
In Castello Branco there's a beautiful botanic garden, but
unfortunately it was raining cats and dogs when I was there, so I didn't
take photo's of this garden.
To the south there's the city Evora.
In this city there's a large aquaduct.
We stayed in a 3 stars hotel named Don Luiz.
I would give this hotel 0 stars, it was an old and dirty hotel, with a
stinking room.
When I drove through Portugal I
noticed most cities looked like strongholds. portugal has often been in war
with Spain. You will also see a lot of cork
trees . Cork is the bark of the cork tree. It's
with port the main export product of Portugal..
When you pass a Pousada
, don't forget to drink a cup of cofee (and have a look) in
this hotel.
In South Portugal (The Algarve)
there're many beaches you can go to for sunbathing. This is also the more
touristic part of Portugal. Here you can find tourist shops, disco's etc.
The landscape and culture are less intresting.
