Lisboa (the bookmarks leads to the photo's)
Lisboa is the capital of  Portugal. Because of all the big buildings it's obvious Portugal has been an important country in history. Portugal always has been a country of shipsmen. TheJeronimus monastery is from about 1500 and is one of the most famous buildings of Portugal. It used to be next to the river Tejo, but now there's a park. In the Sea museum, that's in the western part of the Jeronimus monastery , you can see the famous sea history of Portugal. Oposit of the Jeronimus monastery you see the  Memorial for discoveries that's been build in 1960. Beside the memorial stands the Bélem tower , build in 1515. The  Bélem tower had two functions: One function was a light tower, the other function was to defend Lisboa.

There're some very nice panorama's in Lisboa:

• The Castello de st Jorge is a ruim on a hill. All the walls are still in tact. When you stand on a wall you have a nice view over the city.
• The  Monument of Christ stands at the other side of the river Tejo.  It's very high and when you're on top of the statue, you have a nice  view over the city.
• On top of the  Memorial for discoveries you have a nice view over the river Tejo , the Bélem Tower and the Jeronimus monastery.

The public transport in Lisboa is very special. Of course there're just normal busses and trams. But on some places there're still some old trams , There's also a special  tram elevator and you have the famous elevator of Eifel. Because it's all public transport, prices are very cheep.

The most cosy quarter, but also most touristic quarter of Lisboa is Alfama. Here you can find several small and nostalgic streets.

Lisboa also has a big aquaduct that's not mentioned in many brochures.

To park a car in Lisboa is like in other big cities dificult. So you better use the metro instead.
I've only been a few days in Lisboa; otherwise I could have visit lots of other intresting museums and monuments.

Lisboa neighbourhood.
The coast nearby  Lisboa is very rough. North of  Lisboa there's the city  Sintra. In this city there're several castels among the very special castle of the former queen of Portugal. This castel does have a lot of (expensive) kitsch and a variety of stiles. Besides the castles, also the nature around Sintras is beautiful.

Fado
Fado is the authentic Portugues music. It's a bit said. But you hear Fado only in some restaurants, at the radio you hear the normal pop songs. It's a little bit expensive to eat in a restaurant with Fado music.
