The eco-resort
Last week of my holiday in Peru I stayed at an
eco-resort in the rain forest.
In an eco-resort you don't have much
luxury. I didn't have a warm shower or electricity. But candles are more
romantic and do you realy need a radio or televison when you hear the birds
and the crickets? In the middle of the rain forest uou have to enjoy the
sounds of nature and just relax. When you wanted to walk through the forest,
you could choose between several trails, but when you wanted to relax you
could also read a book in a hammock. The eco resort was build by indians
with natural materials. The cooke also was an indian, so the locals did earn
some money because of the tourists. The Peruvian government was wise enough
not to build large hotels into the jungle. Also it was forbidden to
build a house in the jungle, except a house for the locals.
Butterflies
One part of the tourist program was a visit to a butterfly
farm. purpose of this farm is to preveserve all
the different kind of butterflies. Oke, I saw some pretty butterflies, but
when you've visited the butterfly garden in the zoo of Emmen, then you're
not impressed. In the rain forest itself, at a lake I saw some of the same
butterflies in the wild.
Mushrooms
When you walk on a trail you see things like trees, liana's
ats and also....mushrooms. At first you don't see the mushrooms, but when
you look a little bit closer, you see a leave
that's actualy a mushroom. Also those cute little white
flowers seems to be mushrooms.
Ants
Besides mushrooms you see a lot of ants and ant hils. Some
ant hils do have increadable shapes. I've seen a pudding and.....well,
sorry, but I realy wanted to put this pornograpic picture at my site: a penis
ant hil! You would think an artist did make this in clay,
but no, it's realy made by ants. By the way, the ant is the most occurent
animal of the whole world.
Ara's
Nearby the eco resort there was an
observation place for Ara's. These parats eat
poisoned berry's and to neutralize the poison, the eat clay near the river.
It's fun to be below ara's in a hut. They make alot of noise!
Unfortuantely they were just a little bit to far away to see them on the
photo's.
Rain forest in general
When you're in the rain forest you
realy can relax. It's not silent, on the contrary: you hear birds,
crickets, strange sounds and monkey's. There're gigantic trees, strainge
insects, special ant hils etc. etc. You do see something new every day. You
don't see wild animals, because they're afraid for human beings. But when
you're a child, you can be eaten by a puma.
The only thing I didn't like in the rain forest
are the mosquito's. Ants are not a problem, when you don't
leave your food open on the table.zijn de muggen. But
in the evening and also at dark places during the day, you see mosquito's.
My special jungle throuser wasn't cheep, but it was worth the money! Also be
sure you sleep under a mosquito net.
Which animals
have I seen?
I've seen a lot of animals. During a boat trip I saw a
little aligator. (ca 60 cm) and an otter (at ca 200 meter distance) I saw a
lot of birds and also some pretty butterflies. When I was brushing my teeth
in my room at the eco resort, I suddenly heart some strange noises. I
watched out my window (without glass) and I saw some monkey's walking from
branche to branche. Unfortunately it was to dark to take a photo. I also saw
a lot of insects, two insects on a tree I have never seen before and I still
don't know what of a species they were. Near the resort they had made a
watch tower and it was awsom to stand there, watching over the forest, trees
as far as you could see, hearing all kind of jungle sounds.
