Train
tour with end station Aguas Calientes
The train in Peru is not the same
as the train in Holland. At every station sales
people enter the train and sell things like tea, bread etc. Then you hear
the train hoot. The sale of tea etc. just continues. Then the train start to
move very slowly. The sales persons continue their sales, but are getting in
a rush. The train moves more quickly and the sales persons jump out of the
train. Finaly the trains does drive with a normal speed. The last station of
the tour is Aguas Calientes.
Actualy there's no station; the train just stops in the
middle of the main street of Aguas Calientes. In
Holland it's absolutely forbidden to walk on the rails, in Aquas Callientes
it's normal to walk on the rails. When the train isn't there, you would
think they didn't use the rails anymore. So when the trains arives in Aquas
Calientes it drives slowly and does hoot a lot.
Aguas Calientes is nearby the famous Machu Picchu.
Staying in Aquas Calientes does have the advantage that when you visit Machu Picchu
you're one of the first persons. In the afternoon the buses
from Cuzco arive, so then Machu Picchu
does have more tourists. When you want to be one of the
first persons to in Machu Picchu, you have to
walk the Inca
Trail.
Inca Trail
You can go to Machu Picchu by bus or
by feet. When you walk to Machu picchu you folow the
Inca trail. These are trails made by the Inca's. The Inca trail does cost 3
days and is proberbly a very beatiful trip in nature. At the end of the
trail, you can see the sun get up in Machu Picchu.
You're also one of the first to enter the site.I myself didn't do the Inca
trail, because I also wanted to see the city of Cuzco.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is discovered in 1911,
so the Spanish didn't destroy this site. It's not
clear what was the function of Machu Piccho. Some people think it was a
little town, other think it was a holy town only for priests. Scientist
suspect that the sun was very important for the Inca's, but there're a lot
of mysteries they still have to solve.
Next to Machu Picchu you see a
mountain, the Huayna
Picchu . You can also climb this mountain and at the end
you have a nice view over Machu Picchu. It's a
long walk, but worth the effort. Tip: climb in a
steady tempo. When I started my climb, I was passed by two young persons who
realy were walking fast. Half way I passed these young persons, who were
exhausted. I supose it's realy frustrating to be passed by a person who's
not walking fast. The Huayna Picchu is
closed at about 3PM..
