Scooter trip: nice, but dangerous
I rented a scooter and the trip was a succes. It's not allowed and don't do it yourself, but most people (including myself) don't use a helmet because of the heat. But I do recommand to use a helmet, because driving a scooter is very dangerous. No, i don't think the Greek drive like mad man, maybe at some roads they drive a bit to fast. But that's not the danger. The roads look perfect and that's the danger. You think you can drive fast, because of those exellent roads.... then suddenly after the corner........ a big rock of 3 square meter is at the road. Try to avoid that! The same can happen with a big hole in the road. My scooter showed some scratches from an user before me, so some people are not on time when they have to stear away from a rock or hole........... Although they're very bad, those little mountain roads maybe even are safer, because nobody will drive fast there.

The advantage of driving with a scooter is you feel the wind blow through your hair and you can visit everything. I saw a horse behind a cart, i passed old lady's in black etc. It was definately one of the best things I did in this holiday.

Mountain ride
In Crete I made a trip on a mountain with the scooter. It was a very nice trip. I saw beautiful views, goats, a chapel etc. It also was a pretty good road. Unfortunately it was a dead-end road. Back home I studied the map and I think it was a road that went from Krousónas to Iréon Antrón. it's an ideal road for cyclist to climb, because at the end of the road there's a valey with a restaurant.

Archeological places
Knosos is famous and does have the name, but I didn't like it because of all the new concrete. Besides, it's expensive and overloaded with tourists. When I was at my scooter trip I saw a lot of archeological sites. Oke, they're smaller, but a lot cheeper (most of them where free). They all were originall and not spoiled with concrete. In fact there were so many old sites I sometimess just passed it, thinking "well this site doesn't look very special". In most sites they put signs on which you can read archeolical details. I often was the only visitor of such sites. (Maybe that's different in high season, but I don't think a lot of tourists visit these places)

During my scooter trip I passed an orchard for olives. I watched the nets on the ground. People hit the branches of the tree and because of that the ripe olives will fall. I drove a little bit further, because I expected a view. At the end of the road there was a view, but they builded new houses. I watched the view and saw a mountain with a rock that looked just like a man! I maked a photo of it and this rock-face I used for my logo. I 've never seen another photo of this rock, so I think I'm the person that discovered it! So even on a touristic island you can see things that are not published in a travel brochure.

Gipsy's
On my way back to the hotel I passed a Gipsy camp. It didn't look like a camping, but it wasn't a nice neighbourhood either. It looked like a kind of ghetto. It's obvious you better can not be a Gipsy in Greece.
